How does When We Come Together work?
This installation uses an Azure Kinect sensor to track how visitors move, interact, and connect within the space. Each gesture and formation creates a different experience depending on how the visitor moves and how many people there are.

What is the Thirteen Grandmother Moons?
The Thirteen Grandmother Moons is a Haudenosaunee teaching that highlights the spiritual significance of the thirteen lunar cycles, each offering guidance on how to live through reflection, recovery, reconciliation, and gratitude. This installation aims to encourage audiences to reflect on their own understanding of reconciliation and how they live. in relation to others. The installation allows audiences to experience reconciliation as a continuous process that grows through self-reflection, connection, and collaboration.

Which four moons is this installation based on?
This installation focuses on four moons from the Thirteen Grandmother Moons teaching: the Spirit Moon, Sugar Moon, Strawberry Moon, and the Falling Leaves Moon. Each moon represents a different part of the seasonal cycle: winter, spring, summer, and fall. The Spirit Moon, representing winter, teaches silence and reflection. It is the first moon of Creation and is represented by the northern lights. The Sugar Moon, representing spring, teaches balance and renewal. This moon is created during the time when maple sap begins to run, teaching people to find balance after times of scarcity. The Strawberry Moon, representing summer, is the moon of reconciliation. The strawberry reminds people to welcome others back with love and forgiveness. The Falling Leaves Moon, representing fall, teaches gratitude and transformation. It reminds people to honour the cycles of change and to be thankful for everything they have.

The Lights On Stratford Festival is an annual winter event that takes place in Stratford, Ontario, that transforms the city with beautiful light-based art installations. From December 12 - January 18, local landmarks, streets, and parks are illuminated with interactive and creative displays designed by artists and designers. The festival celebrates community, creativity, and the beauty of light during the winter season, drawing visitors to explore the city of Stratford in a magical and inspiring way.
